Description

The PDS™ II Absorbable Suture, 4-0, 27", Violet, with SH needle, is a synthetic monofilament suture composed of polydioxanone. It is indicated for soft tissue approximation where extended wound support is required. The suture is absorbable and maintains high initial tensile strength while minimizing tissue reactivity due to its monofilament structure and smooth surface.

The SH needle is a 1/2 circle taper point needle designed for general soft tissue suturing. Its rounded tip allows smooth and atraumatic passage through delicate tissues, making it ideal for fascia, peritoneum, subcutaneous layers, and other internal closures. The 26 mm length provides adequate depth and control during suture placement in a variety of surgical fields.

PDS™ II retains approximately 80% tensile strength at 2 weeks, 70% at 4 weeks, and 60% at 6 weeks post-implantation. It undergoes hydrolytic degradation, with complete mass absorption typically occurring between 183 and 238 days. This extended strength profile supports tissues undergoing slow healing without the need for suture removal.
